DIRECT LAWYER GUIDANCE

Prepare for a focused immigration consultation.

A consultation is a scheduled conversation with Sarb Farmaha about the facts, documents, timing and practical next steps in your Canadian immigration matter.

It is different from a general inquiry, and it does not by itself create an ongoing retainer.

01 · STARTING POINT

Choose the right first step

If the firm does not yet know the basic context of your matter, begin with an inquiry. If you are ready to reserve time for advice, use the booking page.

02 · BEFORE THE MEETING

Bring the record that matters

  • Copies of applications, submissions and supporting evidence relevant to the question.
  • Any refusal, procedural fairness, compliance or government correspondence.
  • Important dates, status-expiry information and known deadlines.
  • A concise list of the questions or decisions you need help with.

03 · AFTER THE MEETING

Know what happens next

The consultation may identify information to obtain, issues to investigate, or possible next steps. If further legal services are appropriate, scope, fees and retainer terms are addressed separately.

CLEAR EXPECTATIONS

Inquiry, consultation and retainer are distinct.

A website submission does not make Beyond Borders Law your lawyer. A consultation is limited to the booked service. Ongoing representation begins only after conflicts and suitability checks, agreed scope and fees, and a signed retainer.

01

Inquiry

Basic information used to understand the type of matter and determine an appropriate next step.

02

Consultation

A scheduled, focused discussion of the information available and the questions identified.

03

Retainer

A separate written agreement defining the services, responsibilities and fees for ongoing work.

TIME-SENSITIVE MATTERS

Do not wait for a website response if a deadline may apply.

Submitting an inquiry or booking request does not pause a filing deadline, preserve immigration status or begin court proceedings. Seek prompt legal advice where a refusal, status expiry, restoration period, procedural fairness letter, appeal or Federal Court deadline may be involved.
